Editorial Policy

Edited by Chris Bess

Accuracy

Every published story is reviewed by the editor before it goes live. Stories are constrained to facts in the cited sources. If a fact isn’t in the sources, it doesn’t appear in the story.

Sourcing

We cite our sources inline as links. When multiple publications cover the same event, we prefer:

  1. Official sources — the company blog or newsroom that’s the subject of the story (PlayStation Blog, Xbox Wire, Twitch blog, etc.)
  2. Major outlets with original reporting (Polygon, IGN, Dexerto, The Verge, Eurogamer)
  3. Community and aggregator sources, when they add detail the higher-tier sources don’t.

We do not republish other publications’ articles. When we cover a story that another publication has reported, we link to them and write our own version.

Opinion

Opinion is permitted within the bounds of a columnist’s beat. A columnist may take a position on a documented event — “X is bad”, “Y is overhyped”, “Z is the right move”. Opinion may not invent or distort facts to make its point.

When opinion appears, it’s distinguishable from reporting by tone and framing. We don’t run unmarked editorials.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it. Corrections are posted at the bottom of the article with a brief note about what changed and why. Significant corrections — wrong subject, fabricated detail, attribution error — are noted at the top.

Report a correction: editor@lagg.news.

Right of reply

If a person or company is named unfavorably in a story and disputes a factual claim, email editor@lagg.news. We will review the source material against the dispute and, if the claim was unsupported, correct it.

We do not run sponsored content. We do not accept gifts, comped hardware, or paid coverage in exchange for editorial decisions. We do not have affiliate deals on the editorial side of the site.

Conflicts of interest

The editor will disclose any personal connection to a subject in a story footnote — investment, employment history, personal friendship.

Anonymous sources

We rarely use anonymous sources because most of what we cover is already published. When we do quote an anonymous tip, the editor knows the source’s identity and judges them credible.

Independence

Lagg News is independently owned by Chris Bess. We have no platform partnerships, no exclusive content deals, no obligations to any covered party.
